 Billy Joel musical Movin' Out has been hit by poorer-than-expected ticket sales, it was announced today.

The show, melding rock'n'roll with ballet, has been a hit on Broadway where it recently ended its three-year run.

It is set to singer-songwriter's Joel's classics, such as Uptown Girl, We Didn't Start the Fire, She's Got A Way and the title track Movin' Out.

The musical opened at London's Apollo Victoria on March 28 and was due to finish its run on July 17.

But fewer people have been to see the show, created by US director-choreographer Twyla Tharp with orchestration by the Piano Man himself, than hoped.

A trading update issued to the stock exchange by IP Live plc, the company producing the UK and European version of Movin' Out, said: "The first three weeks of Movin' Out ... have shown occupancy levels below management's expectations.

"The directors are keeping the position under review on a daily basis and taking action to try and improve the situation.

"The show, which combines live rock music and non-stop dance, has been well received by audiences and critics alike and the cast continues to receive standing ovations each night, but a greater number of tickets need to be sold if the show is to continue to the end of its London run in mid-July on a commercially viable basis."
